Sub-Volume Thresholding Analysis

SVT is a tool for the Statistical Analysis of Stereotactic Functional Brain Data. The series of 'C' subroutines which comprise the SVT library can be easily incorporated into the user's site specific programs adapted to their particular needs.

Features

  • SVT includes SVT_MNI9_5_2_SS_flt program, that is employed for analyzing activation versus rest functional volumes for single subject (SS) studies.
  • SVT includes two versions SVT_MNI9_5_2_MS_flt and SVT_MNI9_4_2_MS_flt geared towards analysis for determining the statistically significant regions of activation in functional brain as applicable to multi-subject (MS) and group studies.
  • SVT 5.3 incorporates the 272 sub-volumes of interest (SVI's) included in the Sub-Volume Probabilistic Atlas (SVPA) for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) population.
  • The multi-subject Sub-Volume Thresholding (SVT) technique helps determine the statistically significant metabolic changes in functional images using probabilistic partitioning of the human brain. Such probabilistic segmentations allow variable thresholding of the data and avoids the morphologic registration problems associated with the rigid boundary partitioning.
  • SVT includes a graphical user interface (GUI) written in Tcl/Tk for use on SGI machines. The user needs to re-link, edit and revise the "*.C++" files, especially the system calls within them, because it is currently set up to work in the LONI's UNIX directory framework.

Description

All routines are invoked as standard UNIX commands. The series of 'C' subroutines which comprise the SVT library can be easily incorporated into the user's site specific programs adapted to their particular needs. SVT version 5.2 and above include a graphical user interface (GUI) written in Tcl/Tk for use on SGI machines.

System Requirements

Unix-SGI

  • Version: 5.3
  • Size: 20 Mb
  • OS: IRIX
  • Processor: any
  • Memory: 256 Mb
  • Software: C compiler

Installation

Compiling:

  1. download the source code
  2. change the working directory to SVT5_2.dir
  3. type chmod +x MAKE2.com
  4. type MAKE2.com

Compilation will probably take a few minutes.

Installation:

This version of the package is only tested on SGI IRIX machines; however, since it's pure C (computation) and Java (visualization) it should install and run well on most platforms that have the Javac and C compilers.

Dependencies: Automated Image Registration: AIR (required)
Display/Register MINC tools (strongly recommended)

Note: Before you run the software you need to reconfigure most of the Java GUI components especially the places where your code lives and where AIR and MINC tools are installed.

Purpose

The SVT software is a tool for determining the statistically significant regions of activation in single or multi-subject human brain functional studies. It can be also applied to structural brain data for analyzing developmental, dementia and other changes of anatomy over time.
